- Understand first of all, it is
not a requirement, nor is it necessary to be a Marlin, for swimmers
to compete in swim meets. Competitiveness comes in different
forms and stroke/technique improvement or the desire to swim
in a group/team environment provide, in-and-of-themselves, goals
for those to reach without going to competitive meets.
- That said, we like to see our
swimmers participate in
meets and should they desire to compete, the next
two pages will provide information useful for getting prepared and
registering for meets, as well as attending meets and how they are
conducted.
- Meets are the ultimate form of
competition and one of the great things about meets are the various
levels of abilities present. The Marlins will attend the
meets found on our
Events page. Swimmers
may also participate in an "unattached" status at other meets in
our area, under the governance of Pacific Northwest
Swimming (PNS). Those meets, including those
attended by the Marlins, can be found on the PNS Meets page.
- As swimmers continue to
progress, they can attain certain standards. Typically the
initial progression is the PNS Silver Standard. The
next level of progression is the PNS Gold Standard. Higher
standards are achievable and more can be learned about those as the
swimmer moves beyond the PNS Gold time.
- Regardless of ability level,
meets are where swimmers can showcase their efforts. It is a
day, or a couple of days, where the swimmers work hard, hang out
with and cheer on their teammates, and continue to learn about the
nature, performance during, and the appropriate attitude and
behaviors of competition.
- There are many experienced
swimmers and families on the Marlins that are great sources of
information but, ultimately, the Marlins' coaches, with
years of competitive swimming and coaching under their
belt, are the best source of information when it comes to swim
meets.
